INS Arighat: – Will foil every trick of the enemy, 2nd Submarine equipped with nuclear weapons is ready
INS Arighat: The country’s second nuclear submarine INS Arighat is fully ready to give new strength to the Indian Navy and further increase its firepower. INS S-3 will be handed over to the Indian Navy by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh today. This submarine was launched in 2017 and was undergoing testing since then. Now it will be commissioned. Defense Minister will hand over this submarine to the Navy in Visakhapatnam. The event will be attended by Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, Chief of Indian Strategic Command Vice Admiral Suraj Berry and top officials of DRDO. After its official induction, India will have two nuclear submarines. Earlier in 2016, the indigenous nuclear submarine ‘INS Arihant’ was inducted into the war fleet.
The submarine weighs about 6k tonnes
This nuclear submarine weighs about six thousand tonnes. The length of Arighat is about 110 meters and the width is 11 meters. INS Arighat will become a part of the Strategic Force Command and due to being associated with the Strategic Force, the Navy has not shared any official information about the commissioning of this nuclear submarine.
Equipped with a missile with a range of 750 km
The word Arighat is derived from the Sanskrit language, which means destroyer of enemies. This second nuclear submarine of India has been built in the shipyard located in Visakhapatnam. The Arihant submarine has been equipped with the K-15 ballistic (nuclear) missile, which can strike up to 750 km from the sea. Not only this, this state-of-the-art submarine of the Indian Navy will also be equipped with the K-4 missile, which can strike up to 4000 km.
The Arighat submarine is highly advanced technology
Defense sources say that the country’s second nuclear submarine ‘INS Arighat’ is fully ready to protect India’s maritime borders. This is India’s second indigenous nuclear submarine, but ‘Arighat’ is much more advanced than Arihant of its class in many respects. At the same time, the construction of the Indian Army’s third nuclear submarine ‘INS Aridaman’ is also going on. After its construction, India’s war fleet will have 16 diesel conventional submarines and India will also have three nuclear submarines .
It is worth noting that earlier India’s SSN nuclear powered submarine was sent back to Russia after the expiry of ten years lease in 2022. In 2004, India launched the Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) project to build four SSBN (‘Ship, Submersible, Ballistic, Nuclear’) submarines. The fourth submarine of this project (code name S-4) is also under construction.
